Title: Average speed of a rip on a long balloon
ID #: HS-53-3
© copyright: Loren M. Winters
Medium: 35mm negative
Description: Sound triggers at either end of the balloon discharge 2 flash units to illuminate the rip at different instants. The disk (dia.=10.5 cm), rotating at 51.7 Hz, can be used to measure the time interval to obtain the average speed of the rip.
Technique: double-burst flash

Title: Speed of a BB
ID #: HS-13-17
© copyright: Loren M. Winters
Medium: 35mm negative
Description: Two flash units, independently triggered by sound, illuminate a speeding BB, a meter stick, and a disc rotating at 50.4 Hz. This provides enough information to calculate the speed of the BB.
Technique: double-burst flash

Title: Speed of rip on round balloon
ID #:
© copyright: Loren M. Winters
Medium: 35mm negative
Description: The average speed of the rip in this balloon can be found using the time interval and distance between the eyes of the figure (0.98 cm). The rip is traveling much faster than sound.
Technique: double-burst flash (interval = 0.098 ms)
